“It’s not obvious at first, but ‘Real Play’ is not ‘Role Play’. We all have experienced the gap fill exercise of ‘role play’ where participants go through what is essentially an awkward box ticking course recap where neither participant actually gains from the experience.
Real Play is different. It genuinely provides, not only an opportunity to test the theory, but to have controlled stressed conditions within a safe environment. The quality of the actors involved, the detail of their brief, the management of the session and ability to rewind and replay in order to take on board genuine constructive observations from the facilitators and group, made this exercise one of the programme highlights.
Don’t get me wrong, this was a challenging and, at times, an uncomfortable exercise, but one that genuinely resulted in me learning something about myself and enhancing skills that are actually transferable into the workplace.”
