It is well understood that putting something back into the communities where you work is good for business. The best team building days are often those occasions where the common goal is a good cause and this leads to new and stronger relationships and better understanding of individual differences.
We have taken this concept and, where possible and practical, recommend starting a community project. This is actually a management development programme with a Community based challenge.
One example (shown here) is an outdoor classroom at an infant school completed in a single day by a group of 12 delegates who had only met that morning. They were given no resources and had to use their network and guile to achieve their result. (Read more on our recommendations page.)
The projects will of course vary from group to group but the thing that is consistent is the flying start achieved when the delegates come together for Module 1. Already barriers have been broken down and there is a shared experience to reference, and observed strengths and weaknesses to explore, when introducing topics such as leadership, teamwork, and communication.
